Which is our Galicia?
Galicia (German Galizien) was part of Poland before 1772, 1772-1919 was part of Austria (Austro-Hungarian Empire), 1919-39 was part of Poland, 1939-1991 was part of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, and today is part of western Ukraine .
Our FBs group deals with the genealogy of people with ancestors who came to Galicia as part of the so-called Josephine colonization, mainly of German origin. German settlements existed in Galicia from 1772 to January 1941.
It follows from the above that we do not primarily deal with Polish and Ukrainian genealogy in this Group.
Moreover, Austrian Galicia should not be confused with the Spanish Galicia of the same name.
